The Dental Faculty had a high-visibility presence at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM), held in Puerto Rico, 5-9 April.

Dental Faculty Dean, Dr David Felix addressed the AAOM general membership, speaking about the role of the College in assessment and maintenance of standards. He also presented the World Workshop in Oral Medicine (WWOM) data on oral medicine training throughout the world, which was one of the eight WWOM papers recently published in the journal Oral Diseases.During the meeting, the College conducted a conjoint examination with the American Board of Oral Medicine (ABOM); an examination first held in 2006 and which is now a well-established feature in the examinations calendar. Dr Felix, working with Professor Martin Thornhill from the University of Sheffield, examined three candidates in conjunction with the examining team from the ABOM. Dr Felix and Professor Thornhill, along with the College Regional Adviser for America, Dr Peter Lockhart, later joined the ABOM to discuss the exam and other matters of mutual interest.
