Joint meeting with America’s paediatric dentists

aapdHeld from 1-3 September, ‘Doing the Best for Children: Are We Up to Date?’ was the first joint meeting of the RCSEd’s Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) and the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (AAPD)

The opening session was devoted to Early Childhood Caries (ECC) whereby Dr Paul Casamassimo (Ohio) provided a sound base for reflection and discussion on the psychological and social impact of ECC, which was followed by Dr Dafydd Evans (Dundee), who discussed the Scottish family-centred management approach to treat and prevent ECC.

talesMore delegates than ever attended this year’s Dental Symposium “Tales of the Unexpected”, held in October at Newcastle United Football Club

St James's Park provided the venue for the 2011 Dental Symposium "Tales of the Unexpected". The number of delegates had doubled from last year, with over 130 foundation trainees and trainers from the Northern and Yorkshire and Humber Postgraduate Deanery attending.

 
IAOO third world congress

The Third World Congress of the International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO) held in Singapore from 14-17 July, sponsored by RCSEd, was attended by 673 delegates from 51 countries

Themed ‘Yin and Yang: Balancing Cure and Consequences’, the Singapore meeting attracted international delegates from various fields of expertise including head and neck surgeons, otolaryngologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, dental surgeons, pathologists, radiation and medical oncologists, experts in oral medicine, as well as basic scientists in the field of oral oncology.

felix-d-webThe Faculty remains vibrant with continued expansion of the number of Fellows and Members. Over the last three years we have witnessed a 35% increase in numbers of Fellows and Members in the UK. The Faculty also has a strong international role and the increase in Fellows and Members overseas is even more dramatic, at 45%. Our total membership now stands at over 2,500.
