Team-talk
Thursday, 01 July 2010

teamworks_webOver 100 delegates gathered for the Fourteenth Annual Conference for Dental Care Professionals at the RCSEd on 6 March 2010

Adrian Jordan, Chair of the Advisory Board for Dental Care Professionals (DCPs), opened this year’s conference, The Team Works, with his presentation ‘The Specialty Advisory Board – What can it do for you?’ In his talk, Mr Jordan said that the College recognises the value of DCPs as part of the team approach to dentistry and wants to know what they would like from the College.

Ewen McColl, Army Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Centre for Restorative Dentistry in Aldershot, discussed ‘Implant Complications and their Management – a Team Approach’ and highlighted emerging problems in implants after 10 years of placement.

Also from Aldershot, Brian Smith, Royal Navy Dental Officer, and Lesley Hailey, Royal Navy Dental Nurse, delivered the joint presentation ‘Dentistry in Afghanistan’, which included their experiences of dealing with mass-casualty events.

James Hardy, Dental Centre Minley, covered the interesting topic of forensic dentistry in ‘The Tooth, The Whole Tooth and Nothing but the Tooth’, emphasising the importance of accurate record keeping. He also stressed the need for a good relationship in the dental team to maximise patient care.

The final presentation of the day was delivered by Hugh Harvie, Head of Dental Services, Scotland Dental Protection, covering ‘Complaint Handling’. Although it is a potentially dry subject, this core element of CPD was presented very well and was enhanced with engaging video clips.
