The College is set to host a series of regional events over the coming months
Representatives from the College are holding a series of regional events across the UK to meet with and hear the views of Fellows, Members and Affiliates.
The centre-piece of this year’s outreach programme is to be a major event in Birmingham in October encompassing a regional forum, workshop and the second annual meeting of RCSEd’s Faculty of Surgical Trainers.
At the events, trainees and consultants will meet with office bearers, council members and regional surgical advisers to discuss current issues affecting the profession, with topics to include surgical outcomes and revalidation, patient advocacy and training surgeons for the future needs of the NHS.
Commenting on the events, RCSEd President Mr Ian Ritchie said: “Much is changing in our profession and in our College, and I would encourage Fellows, Members and Associates to come along, find out more about what the College is doing in their area and share their views with us. We want to engage with our membership on the issues that affect them and we want their views on how the College can support them.”
The visits kicked-off in April with a regional forum in Belfast, with more events to come in Middlesbrough, Nottingham, and Birmingham (see below).
FST Annual Meeting
One of the highlights of RCSEd’s regional events in 2013 will be the Second Annual Meeting of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers, which will take place at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham on Thursday 24 October 2013 – the day after RCSEd’s regional forum in the city.
Titled ‘Playing for Real – Simulation in Surgical Training’, the meeting’s Keynote speaker will be Douglas S. Smink, MD, MPH, Associate Medical Director, STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. The line-up also includes David Rowland, ex-Concorde pilot and Head of Simulation at British Airways.
