The intercollegiate Surgeons’ Portfolio has recently re-launched, providing a one-stop-shop for maintaining professional records
Just before Christmas last year (2011) the intercollegiate surgeon’s portfolio was re-launched. This represents an unprecedented level of intercollegiate collaboration which combines and consolidates the ten or more years of experience with electronic logbooks and portfolios of the four surgical colleges into one integrated electronic product.
The re-launch links the portfolio and logbook systems with the colleges’ membership systems, to allow Fellows and Members seamless access from their private college area into the intercollegiate Surgeon’s Portfolio.
“Development teams at the RCSEd and RCSEng will focus on integrating the system with external information providers… to reduce the amount of rekeying of information required to populate your professional portfolio”
The portfolio now provides a unified and standardised mechanism for data entry and is continually under review to ensure that it remains up to date and relevant in the context of the rapidly changing requirements for reappraisal and for the coming revalidation process.
Users of the RCSEd (FHI) logbook can seamlessly access their logbook records as part of Surgeon’s Portfolio where logbook reports will be extracted directly into their portfolio.
Over the coming months and years the development teams based in the RCSEd and RCSEng will be focusing on integrating the system with external information providers, for example CPD systems, hospital-based theatre systems, audit systems and appraisal and revalidation management systems to try to reduce the amount of rekeying of information required to populate your professional portfolio.
The four colleges have worked closely with the Information Commissioner’s office to ensure that the system is fully compliant with UK and European data protection legislation whilst also ensuring that the systems form a secure and fit for purpose verifiable repository of an individual’s professional information.
Sections covered in the portfolio amongst others are General Details, CPD, Review of Practice, Clinical Audit, Logbook, Feedback on your Practice and appraisal records.
Put all of this together and what we are presenting is a state-of-the-art future-proofed system designed to support the current and future professional development requirements for surgical professionals.
