In April, the College surveyed Fellows and Members of the Faculty of Dental Surgery for their views on the Faculty and the College as a whole. Here Membership and Communications Director Andy Maciver reports on the feedback and how the College is responding
The dedicated survey of the College’s Dental membership had a very similar response rate to the survey of the surgical membership, with over 20% of Fellows and Members taking part.
Respondents indicated that they feel very positive about their membership of the College as a whole; over 81% of respondents indicated that they would recommend membership to colleagues and 87% agreed that ‘the Faculty has an unrivalled reputation for its administration and quality assurance of examinations’.
Results indicate however, that we need to try and offer Fellows and Members better value for money, and keep the dental membership better engaged with the College. The Membership and Communications department has instigated several changes to improve communications with our dental membership, including this new, stronger dental section of Surgeons’ News with a regular column from the Dean of the Faculty, a new dedicated dental section of the forthcoming website (88.1% chose this as a desired feature of the new site), and amongst the raft of new membership benefits being offered, a discount on publications by leading dental publisher Quintessence (60.4% of respondents expressed high interest in discounts on books).
How strongly do you agree or disagree with the following statements?
Some interesting feedback has been gathered through the survey regarding the MFDS (see chart). The vast majority of respondents still feel that the MFDS has relevance to GDPs, and this is something that the College will be promoting in the coming months as we visit dental schools and major student events throughout the UK.
