New Dean, Vice Dean and Secretary to take office in autumn
The RCSEd’s Faculty of Dental Surgery has elected a new Dean. Richard Ibbetson was elected in March and will be formally appointed as Dean at the Faculty’s AGM in September. Professor Ibbetson, who has served as a member of Dental Council since 2000, has been the Director of the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute for the last 11 years. He is also Professor of Primary Dental Care at the University of Edinburgh and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry with NHS Lothian. Professor Ibbetson has held a number of roles within the Faculty, including acting as Dental Council’s liaison with its Regional Advisers and serving on specialty advisory boards.
Speaking about his election, Professor Ibbetson commented: ‘I am absolutely delighted and it is an honour to have been elected the next Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery. I am grateful to Dental Council for their support. I will look forward to working closely with my colleagues both at home and internationally in maintaining and extending the role of the Faculty.’
Rob Chate elected Vice Dean
The Dental Faculty has elected Consultant Orthodontist Rob Chate as its new Vice Dean. Mr Chate’s involvement with the College has included positions as an Examiner, East of England Regional Dental Adviser and, until recently, Faculty Secretary. He is a consultant at Colchester Hospital and also holds honorary posts at the Royal London Hospital and at Mid Essex Hospitals Trust. Mr Chate was elected in February and takes up the three-year post at the Faculty’s AGM on 23 September. Mr Chate commented: ‘I am both honoured and delighted about taking on this role for the Faculty. Incessant change for the profession and the NHS continues apace and I look forward to assisting the new Dean in ensuring the Faculty remains at the forefront of setting UK and international clinical standards, as well as pursuing developments and initiatives while still providing a source of constancy for our Fellows and Members.’
Manogue appointed Dental Faculty Secretary
In January, Michael Manogue was appointed to the role of Secretary to the Dental Faculty of the College. Michael is Professor of Dental Education and Director of Taught Student Education at Leeds Dental Institute. He is a specialist endodontist and holds an honorary staff appointment with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. He has been involved with the College since the early 1990s, when he gained the DRD and then MRD. He was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 2003 and Edinburgh was the natural home for his allegiance, having been a dental student in Dundee.
In his new role, Professor Manogue is looking forward to helping to promote the work and strategic aims of the Dental Faculty and College.
