The Dental Faculty used its presence at this year’s BDA Conference to provide information and advice to recent dental graduates
Over 5,600 delegates attended the British Dental Association’s 2013 Conference and Exhibition, held this year at ExCel London, from 25-27 April. There was a steady stream of visitors to the College’s stand, which was there as part of its Outreach programme.
Most enquires were from recent dental graduates who wanted to know more about the College’s Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS). The comparison between the MFDS and the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (MJDF) of the RCS England was a frequent topic, both in terms of the examination format and career progression.
Other popular enquiries were about the College’s Diploma in Implant Dentistry and about the recently introduced Fellowship in Dental Surgery (FDSRCSEd) without Examination.
Our representatives handled a total of 267 enquiries over the three days, with a prize draw on the final day for a selection of dental books kindly supplied by leading science publishers Elsevier, Oxford University Press and Wiley-Blackwell.
Dental Faculty Office Bearers, Council Members and Dental Regional Advisers were on hand for friendly, informative discussion with delegates. College representatives over the course of the three days included the Dean, Vice Dean, Dental Council members and several Regional Dental Advisers. The stand was staffed throughout by Mariel Roy and Paula Hoy from the College’s Outreach Section.
Information leaflets and literature were available to all visitors and contact details were taken for all enquiries so that follow-up could be provided by the College.
